Stavroula Leka - Education Forum Chair
I am an Associate Professor in Occupational Health Psychology at the Institute of Work, Health & Organisations, University of Nottingham. I am a Chartered Psychologist, a Member of the British Psychological Society and the International Commission on Occupational Health, and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health. I am also member of the University's E-learning/E-knowledge Committee and Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham in Malaysia.
I studied psychology at the American College of Greece, followed by postgraduate studies in occupational health psychology at the Institute. I am Head of the Institute's e-learning team and member of the Occupational Health Psychology Research Group; my main research interests are the translation of occupational health and safety knowledge and policy into practice and psychosocial risk management. I have become increasingly interested in policy level interventions for the promotion of mental health at work. My research has been funded by the European Commission, the UK Institute of Occupational Safety & Health, the University of Nottingham and other UK bodies.
A major part of my work involves working with international organizations such as the WHO. I am the Director of the Institute's World Health Organization Programme. In addition, I am a member of the Planning Committee of the WHO Network of Collaborating Centres in Occupational Health and I manage its programme of work on 'Practical Approaches to Identify and Reduce Occupational Risks'.
I am committed to the Academy and developing occupational health psychology as a discipline internationally. As such I am particularly interested in OHP education and professional recognition and have been working with colleagues from the SOHP (Society of Occupational Health Psychology in the USA) towards this goal. I also believe in collaboration among key professional bodies and organizations and have been liaising with them to ensure continuity and co-ordination of our efforts to promote occupational health.
