Valencia conference logo unveiled

We are delighted to present, for the first time, the logo for the 2008 Academy conference! The logo was commissioned by the Academy's Conference Committee as a means of developing the conference brand. The logo will be emblazoned across all conference marketing in the lead up to the conference and will be used extensively during the event itself.

The logo comprises three interdependent lines representing the three strands of Academy activity: research, professional practice and education. Reproduced in the colours of the warm Spanish sun the lines are shaped into an approximation of the letter V.

Help promote your Academy’s conference by informing the conference team of ‘forthcoming events’ sections in websites, journals and magazines where the conference is not yet listed. Send your suggestions to Aditya Jain at Aditya.jain@nottingham.ac.uk.

Half scholarships not linked with EA-OHP

The European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology wishes to make it clear that it is not linked with the 'OHS Study Tour Half Scholarships' currently being offered to the Academy's 2006 Dublin conference by an organisation called OHS Daily News to organisational safety and health professionals in Australia and New Zealand. The offers are made via an email from the Editor of the publication and on successfully applying, we are informed, winning applicants are requested to send money. This is a fraud of which Australia's Victorian Consumer Affairs Department is aware.

Occupational Health Psychology: Key Papers of the European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology

The Academy is delighted to announce publication of this important book in the rapidly evolving field of occupational health psychology. The book contains sixty full journal-style papers relating to presentations made to the Academy's November 2004 Oporto conference. It covers a wide range of topics of current pertinence and, as such, provides a snapshot of cutting edge research activity in the discipline.

The book should be considered core reading for researchers, practitioners, educators and students with an interest in the rapidly evolving field of occupational health psychology and exists as an ideal vehicle for the updating of professional skills and knowledge in the domain.

Our picture shows the editors, Jonathan Houdmont and Scott McIntyre, at the book's launch. The event was hosted by the book's publisher, ISMAI Publishing, in the beautiful Portuguese city of Porto on 19 May 2005. The launch included a keynote presenation by Teresa Mendonca-McIntyre and Portuguese folk singing followed by, of course, the drinking of port wine!

The book will soon be available for purchase from the the Academy's online store that is currently under construction at www.ea-ohp.org.

Occupational Health Psychology

A recent article in the Academy's electronic newsletter [Arthur, A. (2005), Professional Practice Forum, The Occupational Health Psychologist, 2, 1, 9-10] has generated some debate in the UK regarding the right of course providers to use the title 'occupational health psychology'. The question has emanated from the current wider debate concerning imminent moves towards statutory registration for Chartered Psychologists through the Health Professions Council. Here, Graham Powell, president of the British Psychological Society, seeks to clarify the position.

European Ways to Combat Psychosocial Risks Related to Work Organisation: Towards Organisational Interventions?

Peter R.A. Oeij & Evelyne Morvan (Eds)
© 2004 TNO Work and Employment / PEROSH
ISBN 90-5986-134-5

The PEROSH (Partnership for European Research in Occupational Safety and Health) pillar group on 'psychosocial factors and work organisation' held its second workshop at the EA-OHP Oporto conference in November 2004. The syllabus of papers have been compiled into a report published by TNO Work and Employment, in association with PEROSH.

The purpose of the report is to learn from each (participating) country which activities are being undertaken in the field of 'work organisation and psychosocial factors of stress'. The focus is on organisational interventions and measures and their effects in reducing work related stress. Preceding the workshop the members were invited to write a statement-paper on the situation of their home country. This report contains the separate papers that were delivered to the workshop.
